Members of Poudre Fire Authority are investigating an early-morning fire that left an apartment unit near campus completely destroyed.5
According to the PFA news release, firefighters responded to the 4 a.m. fire at 1301 University Ave. to find a large-volume blaze coming from a center upstairs apartment in the three-story, wood-frame dwelling.
With the fire impinging on an adjacent building, both buildings were evacuated by Fort Collins police while firefighters worked to contain the fire to the original unit.
Apartment residents were taken by PFA’s Customer Assistance Response Team to a local church where they were given food, clothing and shelter.
While only one unit was destroyed, four surrounding apartments had smoke, fire and water damage, with the adjacent building only having exterior damage.
The cause and origin are still under investigation.
