CSU football loses 31-17 to UTEP
The CSU football team lost 31-17 to the University of Texas-El Paso Saturday night.
UTEP (4-3, 1-2 CUSA) jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The first score came on a 36-yard screen pass from Nick Lamaison to Nathan Jeffery.
The second touchdown came 48-yard run by Vernon Frazier.
CSU (3-4, 1-1 MW) came back in the second quarter on a field goal by Chad VanderMolen, who replaced starter Ben DeLine after he had an earlier field goal blocked.
Momo Thomas then cut the deficit to 14-10 when he returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown.
A late field goal made the halftime score 17-10 UTEP.
UTEP then added two more touchdowns to expand the lead to 31-10.
Chris Nwoke ran in from 24 yards out to make in 31-17 halfway through the fourth quarter.
A late Rams rally died when a fourth down pass from Pete Thomas to Crockett Gillmore fell incomplete.
CSU’s next game is Saturday in Las Vegas against the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
