A fatal wheelchair accident, which killed one Fort Collins man and closed Harmony Road Thursday morning, is being investigated by police.
The man, a 54-year-old whose name has yet to be released by police, was trying to cross three lanes of traffic in his motorized wheelchair when a white Chevrolet Silverado truck traveling eastbound on Harmony Road struck and killed him, according to a news release.
Police closed eastbound lanes between Lemay Avenue and Timberline Road for more than three hours while they processed the scene.
John Sollenberger, a 39-year-old Fort Collins resident and driver of the Chevrolet, was not injured in the accident. And while police are still investigating the events leading up to the collision, they do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors.
According to the release, no citations have been issued.
The name of the man killed in the crash will be released to the public as soon as his family is notified. An autopsy is currently being conducted.
Anyone with information about the collision, who has not already given a statement to police, is asked to call Officer Drew Jurkofsky at 970-221-6555.
