Man arrested following assault on State Trooper

A man accused of injuring a Colorado State Trooper on Tuesday night was arrested on Wednesday after his vehicle was found abandoned in a ditch near Willox Lane and Shields Street. The man was found hiding near the 200 block of Highway 287.

A Colorado State Trooper had pulled over the man’s vehicle near North College and Willox Lane on Tuesday, and while the trooper was standing near the driver’s window, the driver suddenly sped off with the trooper grabbing the man’s arm and subsequently being dragged 30 feet.

The trooper was treated at Poudre Valley Hospital for minor injuries and was later released, while the man, who was identified as Juan Alvarez, was taken into custody. He is currently being held at Larimer County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
