“It feels like you’re pampering yourself. You step into the dimly lit washroom, start with a head massage,” said Christy Oliver, a Fort Collins resident who treats herself to haircuts at Studio Be Salon.

A fresh, enticing, trendy feel greets you as you saunter in the door of Studio Be, a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon. Opened five years ago by Ian and Beth Weber, the salon prides itself on staying current and providing the latest fashion advice.

“Our girls are down to earth, they have a good hipster attitude,” manager Casey Sons said. “We follow trends closely, and I think that makes CSU students feel more comfortable here.”

Oliver agrees that the salon has some of the most talented, knowledgeable stylists.

“I don’t feel like I have to know a lot about what’s in style or what I want,” Oliver said. “They’re really good at giving me something that looks amazing and trendy.”

With such high client expectations, Studio Be stylists must undergo a six-month internship before they are allowed to become full-time stylists at the salon.

Sons said there is an “element system” rating stylists from one to five based on criteria such as percentage of rebooking, number of years with Studio Be and number of years of study.

“This allows for a lot of price ranges for everyone,” Sons said.

And the great prices don’t just go for the stylists. As a Paul Mitchell salon, Studio Be only offers those products.

“It’s an affordable, professional line that will offer you the best styling aides,” Sons said. “We believe in the product. It’s an amazing company with good products for cheap.”

Oliver also prides the company on their product choice, and especially how the stylists use them.

“I get products there because it’s convenient. They will show me what the products do on my hair and show me how to style with them,” she said. “The big plus is I can just walk in and say, ‘Do what you want,’ and they make me look spectacular.”
