A 20-year-old female was sexually assaulted inside her off-campus home Tuesday morning after the suspect entered her apartment through an unlocked door.

The victim was awakened by the assault when the suspect entered her bedroom at about 5:30 a.m. She said the suspect claimed had a weapon, though it was not seen, before exiting the home through the front door.

Fort Collins Police Services are still investigating. Hospital personnel notified them at approximately 7:10 a.m. after the woman checked into a hospital.

The CSU Public Safety Team sent out an alert to students Tuesday night because of the close proximity of campus to the victim’s home, located in the 600 block of Remington Street.

It has not been released whether the victim is a CSU student or not.

The suspect has been described as a 5-foot-10-inch stocky white male in his 40s with a receding hairline and curly brown hair. Weighing approximately 200 pounds, he was reported to be wearing a dark jacket and blue jeans.

Police are asking community members with any information to contact Fort Collins Detective Tammy Tracy at (970) 221-6582 or Crime Stoppers of Larimer County at (970) 221-6868.

Community members are encouraged to stay vigilant and aware of personal safety and to keep doors locked and windows secured. Police say to be aware of and report suspicious activity in all neighborhoods. More information is available at www.fcgov.com/police/personalsafety.
