CSU and UTEP have agreed to a two-year, home-and-home contract in football beginning next season. The game will fill the void left in the Rams’ 2011 schedule as the Mountain West Conference will have only eight schools, opposed to the current nine-member institutions.

The new contract will begin on Oct. 22 next year with a game in El Paso, Texas. The second half of the contract will have the UTEP Miners, from Conference USA, visiting Fort Collins during the 2018 season.

In a previous agreement, CSU and UTEP had agreed on a home-and-home series for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. This contract will remain in effect, with the first game to be played in Fort Collins.
“Anytime we can play a non-conference game in the state of Texas, it’s huge,” CSU coach Steve Fairchild said. “Texas is a major recruiting base for us.”

The 2011 season will be the first time CSU has had five non-conference opponents scheduled since 1967.

The last time the two schools met was in 1998 in El Paso when both were members of the Western Athletic Conference. CSU won that game 20-17.
