Everyone has secrets and millions have used Frank Warren’s website to anonymously share them.
Anything from sexual desires to emotional confessions, PostSecret.com is a forum for people to vent without putting a face with the problem. Each Sunday, a new collection of postcards, which is how people submit their secrets, is posted.
“No restrictions are made on the content of the secret; only that it must be completely truthful and must never have been spoken before,†according to the site’s Facebook.
Warren founded the website in 2005 and now travels the country to share his story and will be at Metropolitan State College in Denver today. Students can also share their secrets on the microphone after his presentation.
“Post Secret provides an outlet for necessary social interactions and helps people find ways to connect through technology,†said Brook Gerber, media director for Metropolitan State College in Denver.
Warren will speak at Tivoli Student Union, in the Turnhalle Room today from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is free, but seating is limited to 600.
The program’s original purpose was to be used as an art exhibit, though Warren quickly knew that what he received needed to be shared with a wider demographic, Gerber said.
The point of the website was to help users discover how small the world is and to help those who feel like there is no outlet expose their secrets with an understanding and helpful audience, she added.
