Latina women and education barriers
“Women at Noon,†a campus lunchtime lecture series, will host a talk about Latina women and their struggles in the education system.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, “Women at Noon†will explore why education seems to “present a closed door†to women of this ethnicity, according to a university press release.
Latina women often struggle with language barriers, acting as single mothers, having to work to help support their families and being unable to afford a formal education. Because of this, the press release said, there are fewer professional opportunities.
The program is co-sponsored by El Centro and the Office of Women’s Programs and will be held today at noon in the Lory Student Center Grey Rock Room.
