Want to be hypnotized?

Well tonight’s the night.

Frederick Winters, a nationally acclaimed hypnotist and comedian, will be performing in the Lory Student Center Theater tonight at 6:30 p.m. He is expected to select 18 volunteers from the crowd to be hypnotized as part of his act.

Voted “Campus Entertainer of the Year” by Campus Activities Magazine in 2006, Winters has entertained more than 1 million people and hypnotized more than 155,000 people, according to his Web site, http://www.frederickwinters.com.

“I love entertaining college and corporate crowds and demonstrating the incredible powers of human imagination,” Winters said in his online biography.

“He’s more of a hypnotist, but he adds a lot of comedy into his whole act,” said Melissa Burrows, ASAP’s comedy coordinator.

“It’s very funny, and the audience, when they watch it, they’re going to be laughing hysterically the whole time.”

“He’s just going to hypnotize students and make them do really funny things,” Burrows said.

In a video posted on his Web site, Winters apparently causes students to believe that laughing is illegal on campus and that a microphone stand is a beautiful woman, making some of them make out with it.

The event is sponsored by ASAP, which is paying $3,300 for Winters to perform. The cost covers his performing fee, transportation and living expenses.

Burrows expects about 200 people to attend.
