A major rockslide in Glenwood Canyon at mile marker 125 has closed portions of Interstate 70 approximately between Dotsero and Glenwood Springs, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation Web site.

Several detour routes are in place:

From westbound I-70: exit at US 40/Empire to State Highway 13 and back to I-70; exit in Silverthorne and take State Highway 9 to US 40 and State Highway 13; exit at Wolcott/State Highway 131 to US 40 and State Highway 13.
From eastbound I-70:* exit at Rifle/State Highway 13 to US 40 and back to I-70.

Currently, CDOT crews are on site assessing the damage to the roads and slide area.

Photos posted to CDOT’s site show significant damage to the roadway and side medians preventing traffic from entering the river below.
