After three straight losses, the CSU football team was due for some good news and got some.
Starting cornerback Nick Oppenneer, who sat out much the fourth quarter during the Rams latest game against Utah with a knee injury, is expected to practice this week and play against Texas Christian on Saturday.
CSU head coach Steve Fairchild won’t know Oppenneer’s complete abilities until later this week, but said he was pleased with how the senior was healing.
“He looked better today, but we’ll know a lot more on Tuesday,” Fairchild said in his weekly press conference Monday afternoon. “We’re pretty confident about where he’s at and that he’ll be back.”
More defensive help is on the way for the Rams as linebacker Chris Gipson was called “probable” to play against the Horned Frogs by defensive coordinator Larry Kerr. The freshman missed last week with a shoulder injury.
Defensive lineman Ty Whittier is expected to miss another week, as the junior is still sidelined with a neck injury.
