Last week, the Associated Students of CSU and Association for Student Activity Programming announced their selection of Three 6 Mafia and Lupe Fiasco to perform at this year’s Homecoming concert, creating much excitement and dialogue campus-wide.

Elisa Canali, a wildlife and conservation biology major, was kind enough to sit down with the Collegian and explain her views on the concert.

Q: Do you approve of ASCSU and ASAP’s selection of Three 6 Mafia and Lupe Fiasco to perform at the Homecoming concert?

A: No. I feel like they’re trying to make music universal for everyone’s taste, but I don’t think that it is. And sometimes, that kind of music makes people feel uncomfortable. If they wanted to pick something for a concert for everyone, they should’ve picked something that’s easier to dance to and have fun for everyone.

Q: Are there any other artists you would have rather seen?

A: I feel like they should have picked someone that was more popular on the local scene that people really enjoy. They would’ve saved a lot more money.

Q: Do you approve of ASCSU’s use of $110,000 in student fees to bring these artists to campus?

A: Absolutely not. I feel like the money that students spend on an already-high tuition could’ve been saved or spent more wisely. And if you think about it, the majority of the students on campus aren’t even going to attend the concert.

Q: If the money were yours to delegate, how would you spend it?

A: I just wouldn’t have it at all and make tuition cheaper . no, for more student resources — tutoring centers or people who are having trouble in their areas of study.

Q: Do you agree with the decision to hold the event at Moby?

A: I don’t really mind it as long as they keep it under control, I guess.

Q: Will you be attending the concert?

A: No.

David Yoo, a biomedical science major, took some time out of his Friday to give us the scoop on why he thinks ASCSU and ASAP made a good choice, even if it was a little costly.

Q: Do you approve of ASCSU and ASAP’s selection of Three 6 Mafia and Lupe Fiasco to perform at the Homecoming concert?

A: Yes, they’re a really well known group. I think it gets more publicity for CSU. You know, there’s rivalry between CU and CSU and this gives them a push up there.

Q: Are there any other artists you would have rather seen?

A: Jack Johnson would have been nice, but I heard that they asked him and it didn’t work out because he was busy at the time. A lot of us wondered why we didn’t work around his schedule instead.

Q: Do you approve of ASCSU’s use of $110,000 in student fees to bring these artists to campus?

A: I think it’s a little extreme. Well of course, we have to pay them for coming, but we could’ve found other artists who were less expensive to come perform on campus.

Q: If the money was yours to delegate, how would you spend it?

A: Bike racks would be awesome. Or, what about paying the local bands to come perform at the school? They go on tours too. I know bands like Winderous Igloos toured in Texas so it would be cool to give them a push forward. Sort of like [local band] Tickle Me Pink, but they’re on their way already.

Q: Do you agree with the decision to hold the event at Moby?

A: It’s an alright idea, but there could have been more tickets if they did it outside. The other problem is seating, because people are getting separated from their friends with their assigned seats.

Q: Will you be attending the concert?

A: Yes. “CSU, Let me see you pop your body!”
