On July 31, an unnamed Iraqi student traveling to CSU with the Iraqi Young Leaders Exchange Program died of pre-existing health conditions, said Martha Denney, IYLEP director of international education.

The student and his parents were aware of his condition before he left Iraq, Associate Provost of International Programs Jim Cooney, who worked closely with the visiting students, said. The family was willing to take the risk.

The student was taken to Poudre Valley Hospital from Parmelee Hall. He was pronounced dead at the hospital later that day.

The remaining 15 students visiting the U.S. returned to Iraq this month.
