The CSU softball team was swept over the weekend, losing a two-game series to the New Mexico Lobos at Lobo Field in Albuquerque. They were blown out by nine runs in the opening game on Saturday and were held to just one run offensively on Sunday.
The Rams (20-16, 1-5) lost Saturday night’s contest to the Lobos (20-14, 4-2) 15-4 in a five inning game.
Senior Lauren Cusick, freshman Caitlan Stem, sophomore Ashley Munoz and senior designated hitter Cayte Billman each scored runs for CSU.
Sophomore Rebecca Penland started the game in the circle, pitching only 2.1 innings and surrendering two runs on five hits.
Billman, freshman Eranne Daugharthy, and junior Kim Klabough combined to finish the game in relief.
Sunday afternoon, the Rams recorded only six hits in a 4-1 loss.
Cusick scored the only run in Sunday’s loss when she doubled in the top of the third inning and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Allison Majam.
CSU returns home to face Northern Colorado in a make-up game this Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ram Field. On Friday the Rams will continue the home stand by facing conference rivals UNLV in a televised doubleheader starting at 1:30 p.m.
