The CSU women’s tennis team opened conference play this weekend, losing a pair of matches in Fort Worth, Texas. The Rams were defeated by No. 22 Texas Christian 7-0 Friday and by No. 53 New Mexico 6-1 Saturday.

No. 3 singles player Lauren Strasburger picked up the only victory for the Rams, beating New Mexico’s Lucy Scott in a tiebreaker 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (8).

It was Strasburger’s 11th win of the season. Saturday’s loss dropped CSU’s record to 6-5.

“We are a better team than what we showed,” CSU coach Jon Messick said about the New Mexico match in a statement. “We just had a few things break down and didn’t get the points we needed. We had our chances, we just couldn’t capitalize.”

The Rams will take a break from conference play with a match at the University of Denver at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Then on Friday, CSU will return to conference play with a home match against Brigham Young at noon.
