Libero Katelin Batten has played a big part in the Rams 7-3 start. The 5-foot-5 sophomore volleyball player is coming off a phenomenal freshman year in which she was the only player to compete in every game for CSU. She also set a record for digs by a freshman with 438. She is on pace to surpass last year’s total with 148 digs already this season.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Q: What’s your best childhood memory?

A: Playing tackle football in my neighbor’s back yard with five guys. I was the only girl.

Q: What else do you like to do for fun?

A: Hang out with my church a lot, AIA (Athletes In Action), and stuff like that.

I like to write. I like writing stories for my news writing class. I also like to write poetry sometimes.

Q: What’s your favorite food?

A: Ice cream.

Q: What’s your favorite type of music and who is your favorite band?

A: Country. Carolina Rain.

Q: For how long have you played volleyball competitively?

A: Nine years.

Q: What’s the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome?

A: Competing to be the best in my spot. There are a lot of girls in my spot (libero) everywhere you go.

Q: How would you judge your performance thus far this season?

A: Pretty good. I still think there’s a lot of room for improvement.

Q: What are your goals individually this season?

A: To improve on everything I was working on last year. I would like to be libero of the conference, but I always just want to get better.

Q: What do you anticipate in the match against Utah this weekend?

A: They’re going to be really good. There is always a lot of emotion going into this match, so both teams are going to be really fired up. They’re going to give us some good competition. It’s going to be a close match.

Q: What are your thoughts on the BYU match?

A: The BYU fans are really rowdy. It’s always fun to play there. It’s hard to play, there’s tons of fans and there’s so much emotion.
