Despite shooting more than 60 percent from the field, the CSU Rams men’s basketball team (14-8, 4-6) dropped its fourth consecutive game to the Utah Utes (8-15, 3-7) 82-77 Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

Utah sophomore Luke Nevill scored a game-high 18 points after staring 1-7 from the field to lead his team to its fourth win in the last six games.

CSU junior forward Jason Smith came off the bench for the first time in 55 games to score a team-high 17 points. The Utes erased an eight-point halftime deficit with lay-up by junior guard Johnnie Bryant five minutes into the second half.

Bryant finished the game with 17 points and 7 assists.

Physical play in the second half equated to a combined 29 personal fouls in the final 20 minutes of play. Junior point guard Cory Lewis and center Stuart Creason both fouled out.

The Rams dropped to sixth place in the MWC with the

loss.

CSU got a solid effort from junior guard Tyler Smith, who started in place of

Jason Smith.

Tyler Smith scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. His

3-pointer with five minutes left in the first half gave the Rams their biggest lead of the game, 29-19.

“Our composure is not where it needs to be,” Tyler said on 560 AM-KLZ during a post game interview with Rich Bircumshaw.

The Rams got within a point of the Utes with two minutes and 23 seconds left in the game with a three-point play from Jason Smith, but Utah closed the game out with a 9-5 run to secure the victory.

CSU will return home to host the San Diego State Aztecs on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. at Moby Arena.
