TCU running back Aaron Brown ran around CSU’s defense for 166 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Jeff Ballard added two other rushing touchdowns as the Horned Frogs defeated CSU in front of a sparse crowd, 45-14.
The Rams got off to a fast start after defensive end Tommie Hill sacked Ballard and then proceded to force and recover a fumble. CSU then drove the length of the field, culminating with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Hanie to tight end Kory Sperry. After that it was almost all downhill for the hosts.
TCU rang up 31 first half points after Sperry’s score. TCU’s 31-7 halftime lead proved too much for the Rams to overcome.
The Rams did score the first points of the second half, as well, with wide receiver Johnny Walker taking a pitch from backup quarterback Billy Farris and then throwing the ball to fellow receiver Dustin Osborn for a 42-yard touchdown. The touchdown capped the home career for Osborn, who along with 18 other seniors, was playing in his final home game.
Not many students or fans were around to see the seniors’ finale as the announced attendance was only 16,146. It was the second smallest crowd in Sonny Lubick’s tenure.
