CSU wide receiver/return specialist Damon Morton was named Mountain West special teams player of the week Monday.
Morton returned a punt 58 yards for a score Saturday night in CSU’s 35-23 win at Fresno State. Morton was not slated to return punts before the game started but replaced Johnny Walker midway through the game.
The junior wide receiver also returned two kickoffs for 41 yards and even led the Rams in receiving with 103 receiving yards, five catches and a receiving touchdown.
BYU’s John Beck and Air Force’s Julian Madrid were named Mountain West offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively.
Beck threw for 321 yards on 23 of 37 passes and three touchdowns Thursday night in BYU’s 31-17 win over then-No. 17 TCU. The senior quarterback won the offensive award for the fifth time in his career and second this season.
Madrid had eight tackles, forced one fumble and intercepted a pass Saturday in Air Force’s 24-7 victory over New Mexico. Madrid, a senior safety, won his first Mountain West weekly defensive award.
