Colorado State defensive lineman Jesse Nading was one of 42 players announced Monday to the 2006 Lott Trophy Watch List.
Other Mountain West Conference players named to the list included defensive end Tommy Blake of TCU and safety Eric Weddle of Utah.
The Lott Trophy is awarded annually to college football’s Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year. Winners are judged on various aspects of life on and off the football field including academics, community service and maturity.
The upcoming season will mark the third year of the Lott Trophy. Former recipients include David Pollack of Georgia and DeMeco Ryans of Alabama. Pollack is now a linebacker for the Cincinnati Bengals, while Ryans figures to go early in this year’s draft.
Nading is coming off a big year in which he recorded 48 tackles and four sacks.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation, sponsors of the award, has donated $25,000 to the programs of both former winners. The selection committee consists of media, previous finalists and college coaches, among others.
The winner of the third annual Lott Trophy will be announced Dec. 10.
