The CSU men's golf team will take a shot at a tournament win and a decent tan this week in Honolulu at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate Tournament.

Head Coach Jamie Bermel admitted that Hawaii can be distracting with its beautiful beaches and breathtaking sunsets but the team knows what needs to be accomplished.

"Hawaii is a distraction," said Bermel in Honolulu. "But after being here for a couple days, the men should adjust."

The team confidence level should be high coming off a second place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate tournament two weeks ago. Junior Derek Whiting looks to lead the team again after capturing the individual title.

"Placing second at that tournament is a big boost of confidence to us," Bermel said.

The course should be manageable. It is more inland and wind won't be a factor. Bermel said the par-5s are reachable and the course has good par-3s.

The tournament runs today through Friday.
