The BMI Foundation has announced the start of the 9th Annual John Lennon Scholarship competition for aspiring songwriters.
One $10,000 scholarship and two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded in 2006.
The program, established in 1997 by Yoko Ono, is made possible through donations from Ono with funds provided by Gibson Musical Instruments.
CSU is one of 54 schools this year whose students may submit entries. Students between the ages of 15 and 24 are invited to apply.
The BMI Foundation, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation devoted to supporting the creation, performance and study of music through awards, scholarships, commissions and grants.
The postmark deadline for entries is Jan. 20, 2006. All submitted songs must have original music and lyrics. All entries will be judged by a panel representing different genres of popular music.
