A 20-year-old Fort Collins man died this week when he crashed a stolen sport utility vehicle on a remote county road.

Daniel Rothfuss was not listed in CSU's online directory.

Between 3 and 4:10 p.m. Monday, a 2002 Chevy Tahoe was stolen from a community swimming pool's parking lot on 424 W. Mulberry Street, Fort Collins Police Services spokeswoman Rita Davis said.

At 4:45 p.m., the Tahoe crashed on a remote county road six miles away.

Rothfuss lost control as he sped into a left turn on the gravel road, skidding off the roadway and rolling the Tahoe onto its top. The impact flung him from the vehicle, a Colorado State Patrol officer said.

Coroner's officials determined Rothfuss died of head injuries. An investigation remains underway. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
