Game 6 of the Northern Conference Finals had a lot on the line for each team. The Colorado Eagles looked to advance to the finals for the first time in team history, and the Wichita Thunder hoped to force a game 7.
Facing elimination, the Thunder well, evenly matching the Eagles in all aspects of the game. Each team managed goals in the first period, and kept their penalties to a minimum.
With the entire crowd at Kansas Coliseum on their feet, Mike Lephart scored on a quick wrister goal in the last minute to silence the sold-out crowd. Greg Pankewicz added an empty net goal in the last seconds.
The Eagles will host the Laredo Bucks for games 1 and 2 of the Central Hockey League Finals, with dates and times to be announced.
