CSU student Heather Elaine Nielsen, 20, died March 25 from internal injuries received in a car accident.
Nielsen, an animal sciences major, was driving to Texas for Easter, headed south out of Raton, N.M., when another vehicle hit her 1968 Chevy head-on.
Nielsen was from Victorville, Calif. She participated in Future Farmers of America, the 4-H Club and qualified for nationals in the CSU Shotgun team. She also served as a committee chair on the Ag Ambassadors and helped coordinate RAM Camp.
Friends and family members remember Nielsen for her friendly personality and spark of life that lit up a room like a ray of sunshine.
Logan Killam, Nielson's friend and teammate on the CSU Shotgun Team, remembers Nielsen for her service and love of the outdoors.
"She was a great gal from southern California who enjoyed outdoors and horses," said Killam, a senior finance and real estate major.
A memorial service will be held in Nielson's memory today at 5 p.m. in the Cherokee Ballroom. All faculty, staff, students and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate her life.
