Our View
As of Nov. 20 football is over at CSU. Our No. 11 volleyball
team hosts the Mountain West Conference next week and then it will
be off to the NCAA tournament. Trying to defend Moby Arena and get
its sixth straight MWC title, CSU needs student support and
cheering fans at the tournament.
After that, we need to direct our attention to the men’s and
women’s basketball teams. After students invaded the season
ticket-holders’ seats during the men’s basketball game against BYU
last season, CSU administration noticed something: students are
fans that can create a beneficial atmosphere. While the Rams lost
79-73, the fan presence behind the hoops proved to be a powerful
ally.
During the off-season, the administration called the
season-ticket holders who occupied the west end of Moby and asked
them if they would relocate to allocate more student seating.
Almost unanimously, they agreed. For the 2004-05 season, Ram’s fans
can overtake the east and west sides of the arena from the floor up
to the first railing (about 15 rows). That’s 1,800 seats that now
have the potential of making free-throw shooting and defending the
Rams a nightmare for visiting teams.
Don’t make the CSU administration regret this decision. Don’t
give season-ticket holders a reason to take their seats back. Go to
the games, fill the seats, make some noise and let’s cheer all the
teams that play at Moby into post-season play.
