Q: In the mid to late 1930s, there was a massive upheaval of
senior professors and administrators, who were replaced by new
doctorate-holding personnel. What prompted the school board to take
such drastic measures?
A: At that time in history, higher-education posts required
doctorates, and CSU needed to meet its accreditation. In addition
to that, reports had been coming in from faculty and alumni that
the school was coming up short and needed a higher academic
ranking.
