A teacher and coach from Boltz Junior High School, 720 Boltz

Drive, was arrested for sexual assault on a minor by a person in a

position of trust, according to a press release from Fort Collins

Police Services.

Kevin Russell Tapia allegedly assaulted a 16-year-old female

Fort Collins High School student April 20. The student reported the

incident to a parent on Monday. The parent then contacted the

police.

Tapia, who taught U.S. and World History and coached softball,

track and basketball, was placed on administrative leave by Poudre

Valley School District.

The victim had returned to Boltz Junior High School in order to

meet Tapia for lunch with another female student. The assault

allegedly occurred when the victim was sitting in Tapia’s classroom

and he made “sexually inappropriate comments” to her. The victim

then returned to Fort Collins High School.

Potential evidence was removed for Tapia’s home after police

obtained a search warrant after a preliminary investigation.

Tapia was taken to Larimer County Detention Center on $50,000

bond.

Detective Kristy Volesky should be contacted with any additional

information at 224-6116.
