Rams fall in season opener
Playing in its first dual meet of the spring season, the CSU
women’s tennis team fell victim to the University of Nebraska 5-2
on Friday at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Neb.
The Huskers captured four singles victories and a doubles point
to extend their home winning streak against non-conference
opponents to 47 matches. Meanwhile the Rams tacked up another loss
to the Huskers, against whom they have a 1-7 record, while falling
to 0-1 on the season.
The Rams’ lone victories came in singles play from No. 1 singles
player junior Dasha Zhurin and No. 4 singles player, freshman
Charity Malone. Zhurin defeated Milena Schulz-Garner 6-3, 6-4,
while Malone took care of Rose Ketmayura 2-6, 6-3 (10-2).
The team then lost its second straight match Saturday, falling
this time to the University of Illinois-Chicago. UIC won 4-of-6
singles matches and 2-of-3 doubles matches en route to its first
win of the season. The loss dropped the Rams to 0-2 overall.
