A season ago Laramie, Wyo., served as the site for one of CSU men’s soccer most difficult losses. This season the team has revenge on its mind.
The CSU club soccer team (2-0) faces Wyoming’s club team at the intramural fields tonight at 7 p.m., in what head coach Tony Mortenson said should be a sound victory.
“We played them last year and they beat us, but we really beat ourselves,” Mortenson said. “We’re not expecting them to be great athletically, we should beat them soundly.”
Mortenson’s confidence has brushed off on his players, who guarantee a victory over the Cowboys.
“I guarantee a big win,” said senior Ryan Bennett, a three-year veteran of the team.
The team has not experienced any other type of win so far this season, having taken down Western State College 6-0 in its first game and Johnson & Wales 3-0 in its second.
A large part of those victories is due to the team’s goaltender Nate Freeman, who Mortenson called “one of the best.”
Paving the way offensively for the squad are central midfielder Chris Taylor and striker Nate Miles.
“They are outstanding players with great technical skill,” Mortenson said of his offensive weapons. “It’s great to have them on the team.”
Today marks the beginning of a three-game home stand for the club soccer team. They host Colorado School of Mines Saturday at 10 a.m. and Fort Lewis Sunday at 2 p.m.
