The Associated Students of CSU Student Funding Board allocated $1,524 to the CSU Speech and Debate Society Tuesday to fund two tournaments.
The board allocated $530 for a collegiate debate tournament to take place on Dec. 8. The Speech and Debate Society expects eight colleges to attend the tournament.
Additionally, $994 was allotted for a high school debate tournament to take place at CSU. Approximately 15 high schools are expected to participate in the “Sweetheart Invitational,” scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 14.
Some debate took place as to whether the board should fund this second tournament, as the Funding Board is only supposed to fund events that directly involve CSU students. The board decided that a sufficient number of CSU students would attend to watch the event that funding could be allowed.
