The Colorado State University marching band marched in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland. This was the first time that the CSU marching band had performed abroad. Despite this, the band was recognized as the “Best Adult Band,” beating out Purdue, Alabama-Birmingham and a few other international bands. The parade was just one of the stops on the band’s week-long tour through Ireland. The marching band also performed at Kilkenny Castle on the eve of St. Patty’s Day and visited the Blarney Castle and the Cliffs of Moher. The parade itself was the largest such parade Dublin has ever hosted, drawing more than 700,000 people to the parade site.

It’s the first time in its 110 year history that the marching band will travel abroad, according to senior drum major Luke Contreras. Dr. Richard Frey, the director of the marching band, is glad that CSU’s marching band is being put on the international stage. It is one of four university bands that will be representing the United States in the parade.
