According to the American Association of University Women 62 percent of female college students report having been sexually harassed at their university. This includes verbal, nonverbal and physical behavior. I am a part of that 62 percent and this is my story. In her article titled “A Letter To The Guy Who Harassed Me Outside The Bar” Emily Heist Moss, writer for the contemporary online magazine Role/Reboot discusses our culture as a rape culture in which it is socially acceptable to harass women. According to Michelle Havens, CSU’s Office of Equal Opportunity advisor, harassment comes in a wide array of forms to the people who are more marginalized by society. She thinks that women are a large part of that group. Havens said the best way to react in any given circumstance is whatever response will keep you safe at the time. If you or someone you know is dealing with harassment, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Stop by the Women and Gender Advocacy Center or the Office of Equal Opportunity, both of which are located in CSU’s Student Services Building.
