Arenado had over 30 family members in the stands to witness him put on a show and did they ever get to see a show as the Rockies banged out 19 hits, a new record for them at Dodger Stadium.

Colorado jumped all over the Dodgers from the get go as Dexter Fowler hit a homerun to lead off the ball game and the Rockies followed that up with single by Jordan Pacheco, a double by Carlos Gonzalez, and then a three run bomb by Wilin Rosario, giving the Rockies a 4-0 lead after one inning.

The Rockies continued to pile on the damage in the fourth inning when Chatwood tallied his third hit of the ball game with a 2-run single up the middle giving the Rockies a 8-0 lead at the time.

Colorado improved its record on the season to 16-10 overall and moved one game ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks for the National League West Division lead. The Dodgers fell to 12-13 with the loss.

Colorado will be back at it again tomorrow against Los Angeles as the two square off in the second of a three game set at Dodger Stadium.  Jorge De La Rosa will be on the mound for the Rockies and the first pitch is set to be thrown at 8:10 MT.

The Colorado Rockies not only open the season at Coors Field, but they celebrate their 20th anniversary by honoring the 1993 Rockies team before the game. Players like hitting coach, Dante Bichette and Rockies Manager, Walt Weiss are included in this ceremony. For the 1993 Rockies, this was not only an opportunity for a reunion with old friends but it was the chance to be back home.

Beloved Rockies First Baseman was arrested in Thornton early Wednesday morning.

Police responded to other drivers complaints of Helton’s Ford pickup driving erratically on Colorado Blvd.

Police found Helton at a gas station where they took him into custody for DUI and careless driving.

Helton was released to a “responsible party” according to police spokesperson Matt Barnes.

The Rockies released a statement regarding the arrest of Helton:

We were extremely disappointed to learn that Todd was arrested this morning. This type of behavior is taken very seriously by our organization. We know that he clearly understands the seriousness of his poor decision, the harm that could have been inflicted on others and the embarrassment his mistake has caused to himself, his family, the Colorado Rockies organization and to Major League Baseball.

Todd is taking full accountability for his actions with his family, his fans and the organization. The man we have grown to know has strong values that are grounded in his family and hard work. Todd clearly understands the severity of the situation.”

Helton has played first base for the Rockies since 1997, and has won 3 Gold Gloves, and been to 5 All Star games.
