Police are investigating a fatal accident between a train and pedestrian along Mason Street between Mulberry and Magnolia Streets.
Police first received reports of the accident at 3:45 p.m. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased.
“According to witness accounts, it was a possible suicide,” said Joel Tower, a Fort Collins Police Services officer.
While it was not confirmed, it appeared the deceased had left belongings near the side of the road. Two shoes were strewn near the train tracks.
The train came to a stop on West Swallow Road near the Mason Trail after the railway’s owner, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe, had been notified of the accident.
The Mason Street between Mulberry and Magnolia Streets, and Swallow Street near the Mason Trail will be closed for a few hours.
