Students will teach students tonight to learn the ins and outs of blues and swing dancing after which they’ll be able to relax to some swingin’ tunes.
After dance lessons by the Swing Dance Society of CSU at 7 p.m., Denver bands Easy Bill and the Big Beat, and The Delta Sonics will perform at the Ramskeller at 8 p.m.
Tickets for this event will be sold at the door only and cost $3 for CSU students and $5 for non-students.
The Delta Sonics have a sound that is part Chicago blues and part rock-and-roll with an award-winning harmonica player, said Josie Klein, Swing Dance Society of CSU event coordinator.
“Swing dancing is reminiscent of the Big Band era, but it’s being brought back to life in our own music,†Klein said.
Easy Bill and the Big Beat is an internationally released and acclaimed band that offers a versatile blues style, said event coordinator Mike Selander.
“It’s a different concert than what we’re used to,†Selander said. “It’s a unique opportunity, a unique venue, and it’s open to all ages.â€
President of the Swing Dance Society Kelsey Keener has been swing dancing for 3-and-a-half years and encourages students and community members to join the event.
“Swing and blues dancing is a way to have a social network that is very respected and it’s a great way to meet people,†the senior psychology major said.
Don’t know how to swing or blues dance? No problem. The lesson, Keener added, will benefit people who are curious about this type of dance.
“Blues dancing is a little bit easier to pick up than swing dancing because the music is slower, “ she said.
The event is expecting students from University of Wyoming, UNC, School of Mines and the Denver area to join in on the dancing and concert, Keener said.
