The suspect of Tuesday night’s shooting has been identified as 49-year-old James Scheu, a Fort Collins resident.
Police arrived at the 3100 block of Longhorn Court after responding to a call at 7:34 p.m. from Scheu reporting he was going to kill himself. Scheu also told officers he had multiple weapons inside his home, according to a press release.
Scheu fired random shots from a .45 caliber handgun in the air and down the street and hit at least one parked car and two neighboring houses before being shot in the buttocks by officer Carrie Wills, a 7-year veteran of the Fort Collins Police Services, after firing a shot in the direction of an officer.
Scheu was alone when the police arrived and had been drinking. He told dispatchers he wanted the police to clean up the mess before his family came home, according to the release.
Scheu was transferred to the Medical Center for the Rockies and his charges are pending.
Wills has been placed on paid administrative leave while the investigation continues, in accordance with FCPS policy.
Police are asking anyone who has information about the shooting to contact Detective Neal Hisam at (970) 224-6116.
