It’s a new year, and as many people are using this fresh start to make changes, Fort Collins’ transportation department is doing the same.

As of Monday, there have been minor modifications made to Transfort’s bus and FLEX routes, as well as a change in location for the South Transit Center.

FLEX is a bus system, which, through a regional partnership among cities in Northern Colorado, connects Denver, Longmont, Boulder, Loveland and Fort Collins. And with new changes, the FLEX route now extends to Downtown Fort Collins, passing right by the CSU campus.

“We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback from CSU students and staff,” said Nicole Hahn, transportation planner for the City of Fort Collins, when asked about the extended FLEX route. “This is kind of creating more of a one-seat ride, and people will be able to take FLEX right to campus.”

As for the South Transit Center, now called the Mall Transfer Point, it has been moved from the Square Shopping Center on College Avenue to Stanford Street and East Monroe Drive. This new location will be used for transfers by FLEX and Transfort bus routes 1, 5, 6, 7 and 16.

“We are trying to make it more convenient and easy to use,” Hahn said of the new transfer site.

This winter will also see Transfort use social networking sites to change the way they communicate with riders.

The department will now offer service alerts through the City of Fort Collins’ Facebook and Twitter accounts, announcing severe weather conditions, emergencies and making life a little easier for students and residents who rely on public transportation.
