Moby Arena debuted its brand new $1 million scoreboard system Thursday night at the volleyball match between No. 16 CSU and TCU. Up until its official unveiling just minutes before the match, we wondering one simple question: Was it worth dropping so much money?
Since the project’s funding came straight from a loan by the CSU Research Foundation and not out of our student fees, the answer to that question is just as simple.
With stat and video boards on the east and west sides of the arena, new scoreboards on both the north and south concourses and each end zone and, of course, the beautiful four-sided video board with a rotating marquee above mid-court. What more could we ask for?
And it’s about time.
With CSU volleyball always rocking the national stage and both basketball programs clearly on their way up, it was time for Moby Arena to scratch its old “Light Bright†board that had been there since 1995.
The new scoreboard, developed by Daktronics, provides unique player and team introductions, live game video and the main thing we’ve been missing at Moby since 1966: replays.
Alas, we don’t have to wait until Monday to watch CTV Sports in order to catch that big play. Instead, we can relive the magic with the team right after it happened.
So nice job, CSU, for rewarding the teams that are actually good.
