In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo symbolizes the defeat of the French by the Mexicans at the Battle of Pueblo in 1862. In the U.S., the holiday has molded itself into a general celebration of Mexican culture. And at many colleges and universities, Cinco de Mayo is just yet another reason to pay homage to Jose Cuervo.
