To the excitement of the university and students, Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will speak at CSU April 30 in celebration of the grand opening of the College of Business’s Rockwell Hall-West.

Powell’s campus appearance is a testament to the quality and prestige of the college, students said.

“I think it (his appearance) speaks highly of CSU and our business college,” said Brittany Habben, a senior business, and marketing and management double major.

Powell, a decorated former U.S. Army general, is someone whom the entire campus and greater communities can respect and take an interest in, said CSU spokesperson Brad Bohlander.
“We’re very honored to have Powell,” he said.

Becoming the 65th secretary of state in 2001, Powell pledged America’s support of any and all countries wanting to join the democratic world.

Before his term as secretary of state, he served as the key aid to the secretary of defense and as the national security advisor to former President Ronald Reagan.

Earlier this month, Former President Bill Clinton agreed to speak at the grand opening. But he had to cancel due to other obligations.

Habben said she’d be interested to hear what Powell has to say, adding, “I think (he’s) a great leader.

Powell’s lecture, the culmination of the Business College’s Leadership Month, will focus global leadership and diplomacy. He will speak at Moby Arena at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.
