A pair of CSU Rams teams had a successful showing away from home over the weekend.
The CSU women’s golf team captured a first place finish in the MountainView Collegiate tournament Saturday, just edging out second place Texas Tech. Both teams were tied at the end of the final round, but the Rams pulled off the victory after winning a score card playoff.
CSU senior Kasey Claussen led the Rams in the tournament, shooting a three-round score of 221, including a 71 on the first day of competition. Claussen’s performance was good enough for a fifth place individual finish.
Up next for the Rams women’s golf team is a spot at the Cowgirl Classic scheduled for April 5.
The Rams outdoor track team also enjoyed success this past weekend, competing in the Stanford Invitational last Friday. Senior Kristen Hemphill turned in a school record-breaking performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting a time of 10:08:00. The New Mexico native’s run was good enough for a third place finish in the event.
Hemphill bested the old CSU record time of 10:10:16 held by Meg Larsen.
