CSU’s swimming and diving team was honored this week when seven swimmers were named to the 2009-2010 Mountain West Conference All-Conference team.
This list includes: seniors Nora Kennedy (1,650 Freestyle) and Mari Anna Loftness (200 Breaststroke), juniors Sam Dole (50 Freestyle) and Michelle Price (200 Backstroke), sophomores Breann Fuller (100, 200 Backstroke) and Jennifer Lamb (500, 1,650 Freestyle) and freshman Arianne Lujan (200, 400 IM).
This was familiar water for most of the recipients having earned all-conference honors in years previously. For two Rams, Lamb and Lujan, this was their first time earning all-conference.
“Their performances have become part of the team’s storied history,†Head coach John Mattos said of his athletes. “And they’ll always be remembered as some of the very best athletes that CSU has produced in our aquatics program over the years.â€
The 2010 all-conference selection for Kennedy in the 1,650 Freestyle gives the senior her fourth all-MWC selection in as many years. Kennedy’s streak is the longest streak by a CSU Swimmer since 2001-2004 when Kristen Schneider earned all-conference honors four years in a row.
The CSU swimming and diving team’s season concluded last week in Oklahoma City where the Rams placed sixth with 366 total team points. Though most of the swimmers are heading into their off season, two athletes stay in the pool competing.
Sophomore diver Shayna Solomon is competing in the NCAA Zone E Meet in Austin, Texas March 11 and 12 and Fuller, the MWC champion in the 100 and 200 Backstroke, goes to continue her success in the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Lafayette, Ind. March 18-20.
