In an effort to help students educate themselves and connect with other concerned students around them, Student Leadership, Involvement, and Community Engagement is hosting an information meeting about Haiti today to help coordinate relief efforts.

Jen Johnson, assistant director of SLiCE, said the meeting is aimed at helping students learn more about the previous conditions in Haiti, connecting students with others who are interested in the issue and helping channel students’ efforts so they can make the biggest positive impact.

“We have had a lot of students walking into the SLiCE Office, looking for ways to contribute and to get involved,” Johnson said. “I think it is important to offer students the opportunity to learn more about Haiti before they organize fundraisers or other efforts to provide support to the Haitian people.”

Johnson said the meeting will offer a “breadth of information” to help students make choices about how to involve themselves and how to evaluate the “quality” of a nonprofit organization.

“I think it is important that students are mindful and intentional about how they get involved to ensure that their efforts have a positive impact,” Johnson said.

The meeting takes place at 4 p.m. today in room 224 in the Lory Student Center.
