Campus Activities will kick off the semester’s first free concert this evening in the Lory Student Center Theatre, presenting two Denver-based bands: The Rouge and The Alan Baird Project.
Coming off of a tour in Idaho and recently signed by Atlantic Records, The Rouge’s lead vocalist and guitarist Joshua Vaught said the band is humbled by their rising success and growing fan base.
The five-part ensemble is excited to return to their home state and perform for local students, Vaught said from his band’s van somewhere in Idaho.
“It seems like we’re really embraced (in Colorado),†Vaught said. “We’re really, really excited to get back and perform.â€
“Plus, we’re Ram fans,†he later added.
Assistant Concert Coordinator for Campus Activities Jenny Kim said the goal for the concert was to bring in some catchy local Indie bands that have name recognition.
“I believe we found what we were looking for,†Kim said. “Both bands sound great, and people will like the beats and the lyrics. They’re energetic.â€
“We believe in what we do. We write and play music to make people feel something,†Vaught said. “We’re just boys who love to play.â€
The opening act, The Alan Baird Project, won the 2008 Progressive Motion Battle of the Bands and the 2008 Rock City Productions Battle of the Bands. They have also performed at sold-out venues in Denver.
The Rouge’s next move will be a month-long tour in March on the West Coast, finishing in Austin, Texas at the South by Southwest Festival.
