Ram fans, it has been it has been 1,049 days and counting since the last time the CSU football team has been to a NCAA bowl game. Almost three years ago Justin Holland and the CSU squad fell to Navy in the inaugural Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego on Dec. 23, 2005.
Ever since then, the team and fans have endured a slew of losses, including at one point the longest consecutive losing streak in the nation.
But the dawn may be coming, so just be patient.
Currently, head coach Steve Fairchild and friends sit in fifth place among the rest of the Mountain West Conference, just a sniff behind Utah, TCU, BYU and Air Force. And with just four traditional bids to different bowl games, it may seem like the 4-5 Rams are out of it.
But hope springs eternal, as Utah, TCU and perhaps BYU all have a chance at a Bowl Championship Series bowl, which only invites the elite teams to play and does not count as a bid from the conference.
So if any of the trio runs the table, as we likely must also do, it’s a late winter for our beloved Rammies.
So all of you fanatics, and I guess the marching band too, keep a suitcase nearby just in case the Rams flock to tropic climates to compete on the national stage this winter.
