Jen Warden is no longer the head coach of the CSU women’s basketball team, the athletic department announced Wednesday afternoon.
The news follows a season in which the Rams won a program-worst two games, including an 0-16 record in conference.
“Jen and I have been meeting since the end of the season,” athletic director Paul Kowalczyk said in a statement. “I felt it was best to take the program in a different direction at this time. We need to chart a new course that will benefit the overall health and long-term welfare of our program.”
Assistant coach Kristen Holt will take over immediately.
“I am confident that Kristen Holt will provide the best leadership and guidance for our women’s basketball program as we move forward,” Kowalczyk said. “She has had a wealth of experience and her knowledge of our program is invaluable.”
Warden finishes with a 21-69 record in three years at CSU. The Rams won just five conference games in 48 tries under Warden.
Following the winless conference record this year, the Rams won two consecutive conference tournament games two weeks ago.
CSU beat Nevada Las-Vegas in the play-in game and went on to upset then-12th-ranked Utah two days later.
The Rams then lost to New Mexico in the semifinals.
