The CSU women’s cross country team was picked to finish second and the men’s team fourth in the Mountain West Conference preseason poll released earlier this week.

“The results of the poll are pretty much what I expected it would be,” cross country coach Bryan Berryhill said in a statement. “I think it is going to be a very close conference race between BYU and ourselves. I’m very pleased with where the team is right now from a fitness standpoint. The first week of practice has proven they worked very hard this summer.”

The women are coming off a second-place finish and the men a third-place finish in last year’s MWC Championship.

BYU was predicted to finish first in both polls.

“It is not a surprise to see BYU at the top of the men’s poll as they have a very strong team,” Berryhill said.

The Rams cross-country team opens its season Friday in Laramie at the Wyoming Invitational.

CSU will then host its first home meet in three years with the Colorado State Classic Sept. 15 at Hughes Stadium.
