For the second consecutive season, the CSU hockey team finished third in the nation after losing to Michigan State, 7-4, in the ACHA Division II national semifinals March 10 at the EPIC Arena in Fort Collins.
Senior captain Jordan Stover, who was named to the All-Tournament first team as a defenseman, led CSU, which hosted the National Championships for the second time.
MSU’s goaltender Justin Sand, who was named Most Valuable Player for the event, stopped the Rams on 32 of its 36 shots in MSU’s semifinal victory.
The semifinal loss ended another impressive season for CSU, giving them a final record of 23-10-4.
The Rams finished with two wins and two losses for the tournament defeating top-seed Miami (OH) and Grand Valley State, while dropping contests to MSU and Siena.
MSU defeated the Davenport Panthers 5-4 in the finals also held on March 10.
CSU will play one more game competing in its annual alumni game at EPIC Saturday at 2 p.m.
